Term 3 Science Fun

SCIENCE
We will create a class culture of experimentation and curiosity, where children are not afraid to fail and can take risks in their learning.  All ideas are worthy ideas.  Imagination can make science happen!

Week One - SLIME - Making Observations
Slime Time - Student Video

The children were buzzing from making Slime on Thursday!  Have a look at some of our photos.  Click here to watch the smiley faces when they realise their mixture has turned into slime.  The excitement was VERY noisy!

Week Two - BUBBLES - Light/Colour
Bubbles - Student Video
We had such a great time making Slime last Thursday that the students of Room 10 had high expectations for our Bubble session.

We mixed up the bubble mixture and each child had a bubble blower.

We made the bubbles float, caught them again and attempted to make a big bubble by measuring the diameter of its 'pop' on a flat surface.  We had a great time playing and exploring different ways to blow bubbles.

Week Three - ROCKETS - Air Pressure
Rockets - Student Video
Click here to see our cool movie on our Rockets.  There is even so slo-mo!

Week Four - GLOWING - Light/Temperature
Glowing - Student Video

The children had 2 cups of water.  One with warm and one with cold.
The outcome was really interesting and proves that if you want to prolong the life of your glowstick you should put it in the freezer.  The cold slows down the chemical reaction making it last longer.  The down side though is that you won't get as much light from it.  The warmth uses more energy and makes the glow stick brighter.

Week Six - BALANCE - Forces
Balance - Student Video
We had a lot of fun on a nice sunny day trying to balance.  We worked out that we need to find our centre of gravity and be as balanced on either side as possible so we didn't fall.  This is our class video on our science session today.  We made some cool balancing robots too!

Week Seven - MAGNETS - Push/Pull
Mrs Cameron and Mr Corlett swapped classes for this session.  Mrs Cameron worked with Room 6 on their dance for the production while Mr Corlett ran Room 10 through the magnets experiment.
