Ideas to help with Reading, Writing, Maths
You can help your child's learning every day, by supporting and encouraging them and being excited by their learning. Here are some ideas to keep them developing their literacy and numeracy skills at home. Have a look at the year group for your child and have fun.

Hungry Tsunami - A Poem by Ava
Hungry Tsunami
The day was clear,
The sun shone bright,
Upon my island home,
A lovely sight.
Then the water disappeared,
I was not aware,
I was covered with fear,
That the Tsunami would soon appear.
I ran for the hills,
Grabbed a safety pack,
Soon it would kill,
Quick run faster the tsunami will attack.
Its foamy waves come in with a crash,
Its monstrous height,
Everything in its way would all be smashed,
Everyone was terrified and shocked with fright.
I reached a mountain finally,
The hungry tsunami swept fast underneath me,
I cried I wept,
Seeing those people all being swept.
I’ll never forget the day,
My family was swept away,
May everyone rest in peace,
The tsunami shall never hurt me.

Poem - By Caitlin, Year 6
Caitlin's reading group read a story called 'The Hungry Wave' which was based on the earthquake and tsunami that struck the islands of Samoa and Tonga in 2009. Caitlin wrote a poem about the tsunami.

Fire Tsunami
Tumble, tumble toss and turn,
It comes along and brings a big bad burn,
We run round and scream in terror,
And we cling onto trees to get away from the weather.
I trip and stumble trying to hide,
But I can’t get anywhere without a ride,
It tosses and turns like something within,
But pushes and tumbles all the tin.
My heart felt like it was on fire,
Trying to beat out but it’s covered in wire,
The glass windows shattering and breaking,
What is it, a Tsunami in the making!

Just about to jump in the pool...
The children have been utterly amazing with their swimming progress. I have been so impressed. The instruction from the Aquatic Centre has been of a very high standard. A fantastic opportunity.
