On the last day of school (Thursday 17th December) we will celebrate our final day with some gifts :)

$5 is the maximum spend limit but remember there are plenty of things you could make which would be just as special.

You will need to wrap the present and write the name of the recipient on it that you are secret santa for.  Nothing else.

Bring your gift to school before the last day and place it in Mrs Cameron’s Christmas Basket :)

Jaedyn's Passion Project

Jaedyn and Mrs Johnson worked on a box that Jaedyn could go to when he needed a sensory break in the classroom.  Many of the children in Room 10 contributed in some way to create this amazing box.

We are using this short film based on Raymond Briggs book The Snowman as a guide for some Christmas time writing.  Mrs Cameron used to watch this every Christmas Eve when she was little.

Lucas was keen on making some Glow in the Dark jelly for his Passion Project.

Alexis was interested in making her own 'natural' make up rather than the store bought products that contained a lot of chemicals.  The lip balm she made was amazing.

BEACH EDUCATION Programme - Thursday 3 December

Room 10 and 18 will be heading down to Paekakariki Surf Club on Thursday 3 December to take part in a Beach Education Programme.  We will be leaving school at 9am and returning by 3pm.

Beach Ed is a theoretical and practical based programme where students learn about surf safety from qualified and experienced Surf Lifeguards.  Students receive safety messages and then put them into practice in a managed environment.  The programme is a mix of practical and theory sessions with activities including:

• A tour of the Surf Life Saving Club and with lifeguards demonstrating key lifesaving equipment.
• Receiving surf safety messages to help stay safe at the beach.
• Understanding the role of lifeguards and the jobs they do on the beach.
• Learning about the beach environment - waves, rips and currents.
• Participating in some fun beach games.
• Putting it all into practice in the water with activities such as body boarding, swimming and tube rescues.

The emphasis is on learning to be safe while enjoying New Zealand's favourite playground - the beach!

All children will be going in the water so will need togs and 1-2 towels.  A wetsuit can be worn if preferred.  Long hair will need to be tied back and goggles are optional.  Children will need to take warm clothing, morning tea, lunch and a drink.

To ensure the safety of all children, we will need a number of adults to help.  The ratio is 1:5 so each day we will require 12 adults for the 2 classes.  Without this help we will be unable to go.  You must be willing to go in the water.  If you are able to help, please complete the reply slip below and return to me as soon as you are able.

Everyone will need permission to go, so please complete the form your child has brought  home and return to school.

Swimming Reminder

Dear Parents Monday 9 November

Swimming reminder

Just a reminder that swimming lessons start this week at Waikanae Pool for the next three weeks.

Y4/5 - rooms 19, 18 and 5 will be swimming on Wednesdays starting this Wednesday 11 November from 11-12.30pm.

Y5/6 - rooms 10, 6 and 7 will be swimming on Fridays starting this Friday 13 November from 11-12.30pm.

The final session for all children will be on Wednesday 2 December.

Please remind children to bring togs and a towel in a plastic bag and if possible, goggles, as these really help prevent children getting sore eyes when learning to swim. Long hair needs to be tied back.

We will be travelling to the pool and back by bus.

This is a reminder notice of our up and coming day trips down to Whakarongotai. 

Can you please ensure your child has a packed lunch as we will be down at the marae from 9.30-2.45 on the given dates. No purchased school lunches will be available.

Can we also make sure on these dates the children have jackets and shoes that are easy to take off and put on as we will be in and out of the Wharenui continuously.  

Koha can be given to the office.

Room 10 Calendar Art

Here is a sneak peak of our calendar art.  The folders will be available for viewing at the school office and orders can be made for calendars, notebooks, cards etc from next week.  The children completed their Pasifka art from Term 3 and added their own designs to the sides.
